The Volvo S90: What a Luxury Sedan Should Be

The Volvo S90 is Volvo's flagship full-size sedan, and understandably so. The S90 is sleek, spacious, and packed with the highest quality materials as well as the latest safety features available. This sedan gives off an air of elegance from every angle, whether you are looking at it from the exterior or sitting inside the cabin. It has enough power to provide thrills without sacrificing fuel economy and delivers the extras you need, including complimentary Volvo Concierge service so you have a few less things to worry about.

With materials like natural wood and Nappa leather, you can expect the best of the best from the S90 sedan. The sound system from Bowers & Wilkins ensures the highest audio quality for your favorite songs, radio stations, podcasts, or audiobooks. There is even an abundance of semi-autonomous driving technology in the Volvo flagship to keep you safe at all times. To top everything off, drivers and auto experts alike agree that the Sensus infotainment is among the most intuitive and well-thought-out systems on the market.

How the 2017 Volvo S90 Compares to the Previous Model

There is no comparing the 2017 Volvo S90 to the previous model year, as this flagship was all-new for the 2017 model. That being said, it does replace the previous S80 model. To put the S90 in perspective, the 2016 Volvo S80 gives you a good starting place for a comparison. The S90 sits an inch wider, with a wheelbase that is four inches longer and an increase in overall length to match.

The S90 shares many features with the other range-topping new Volvo models, the XC90 and V90. As such, the top powertrain is the T8 Twin Engine, which is a plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive and the ability to switch between EV mode, Hybrid Mode, and Power Mode, the last of which maximizes output to 472 pound-feet and 400 horsepower. The T6 is borrowed directly from the 2017 XC90 in the form of a 2.0-liter with a supercharger and turbocharger to deliver 316 horsepower via the 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. You can also get the T5, which is the same engine minus the supercharger and borrowed from the S60. Unlike the 2017 XC90, which has an optional air suspension in all corners, the S90 changes the available air suspension to only include the rear axle.
